A Day in London....

Just a quick post today.  I recently went to London with Mum, Dad and Henry for Henry's birthday surprise, which was a lovely outing!  I managed to shoot 4 rolls of film, and around 100 frames on my 7D.  I found that I could 'see' more photos when shooting film, than I could when shooting digitally.  I will hopefully get the film developed by the end of this week, so keep looking!

Enjoy,

Disposable Colour....

I have been shooting a lot on disposable camera's and colour film recently, and I really like the look of the photos.  There is a colour film processor at college, and I have cross processed some colour negative film in colour transparency chemicals, and I think they look fantastic!  I will post them on here when I get a chance.

Hopefully you'll be seeing some more posts soon, I'm fairly busy with work At the moment, but this will all change in the near future, i'm starting to battle through the work!

Enjoy!

Sorry for My Absence....

First of all, I would like to apologise for my severe lack of posts over the last few weeks.  I have had a lot of work on, and I haven't been able to find the time to go out and shoot/develop film.  Also, my camera only came back from the repair man at the end of last week.  However, I have completed my first two uni assignments! Hooray!

Here are a few of the many photos that I took on my recent trip to York, to see Sarah.  We had a lovely weekend, going on walks, going shopping, watching films etc.  Sarah introduced me to quite possibly the best thing I have ever had.  A PINT of tea.  Yes, a pint of the stuff!  Perhaps not the most manly thing to order at the pub, but it was stupidly cold, and I felt like my insides had started to freeze.

At the end of this week, I will get a new brief.  A book making brief!  Exciting stuff!  And then on Sunday, I'm off to Berlin for 5 days!  I will be looking at loads of galleries and exhibitions, having tours around the city, doing all the touristy things, and most definitely looking like one!  I looked at the weather forecast today, and its -9 at the moment! and its going to get colder!  I hope my cameras will work at that temperature!  I'm sure I'll have lots of photos to show over the next few weeks, and I'll let you know what I get up to.

Enjoy!

Halloween!......

Oh my lord.  Halloween was mental.  The party in my block of flats was amazing, there were some very creative costumes, which is what I expected from art students.  These are just a select few photos that I took with my 7D, I was also using my 35mm camera, with the flash gun attached, which was new to me! I can't wait to get in the darkroom and develop them!

Tomorrow I have my first test shoot for my studio brief, which I'm really looking forward to!  I shall let you know how it goes over on my College blog.

Anyway, I suppose I'd better go and help tidy up....

Enjoy!

Wet, Wet, Wet....

Today I went into town for a walk, to see if I could get some photos.  It was raining, windy, and cold. Lovely weather for taking photos!  I didn't take many photos, and this is my favourite from what I did shoot.  I really like the lines in this photo, the red in the barrier catches my eye, leads it to the two ladies, and across the image.  I played with the colour balance in photoshop, to give it a colder feel.  Also, I increased the contrast to help give the photo some more depth.  There was a very soft, but warm light today, which is what I prefer to shoot on the street in.  The light reflecting off of the pavement really helps to emphasise the two ladies, and as you can see, it was quite slippery!

Enjoy!

A successful day in the darkroom...

Today I had my first day in the darkroom since I did an introductory course a few years back, and it was good to be in the red light again!  Yesterday we were given a film and told to go out into town and shoot until we had finished it.  Then today we developed the film, mixing up the correct amount of developer and water, making sure it was at the correct temperature.  We then made contact sheets (bottom image), and then Ross, the tutor, said if you know what you're doing, you can make a print.

So I did a test strip, which is where you cut a strip of photographic paper, and expose it to the image, but holding some card over the majority of the paper, leaving only 2cm's of paper exposed to the light.  You then move the card along 2cm's every 5sec exposure, so you end up with a strip of paper going light to dark (after you've developed it of course!).  From this, you can tell how many second you need to expose the real print for, 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds etc.

I printed the top image on Illford multigrade paper, which means you can print any contrast grade on to it, and it won't come out looking funny.  A 'Grade' is basically how much contrast (the difference between black and white) the image has.  The scale goes from 1 to 5, in half stops, for example; 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etc.  The colour of light also changes, grade 1 is yellow, then orange, red and then 5 is magenta.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Visually explore your new surroundings.....

This was shot for my assignment, re-viewing your surroundings.  Although it probably won't be used in the final 4 images I need, I think it is a good starting point.  When I looked at it on my mac, it reminded me of a photographers work, who's name I forget.  I'm just about to go on a walk now, so if I get anything worthy of sharing, I will!

Sunny Sunny Day....

Its been really sunny and hot here in Leeds recently, so my flat mates and I decided to go and sit in Hyde Park and chill.  I received my first two briefs today, so I was able to get some ideas down for those.  Hyde Park was packed, I've never seen so many people in one place!  I also had a cheeky ice cream :)

Bar

This is the 3rd of the 10 images I had to shoot.  As you can probably imagine, I had a lot of fun taking this....I had to buy a few pints to get the nicest glass....and nicest beer :)

Enjoy!

Baloons

As I mentioned in my last post, I was given a task to do over the weekend.  I had to take one photo of each of the ten headings I was given.  This is the first of the ten; People.  I will be uploading a few a day.

I shot this in Leeds shopping centre, when out with some friends.  I saw the man with the balloons, and new that he had to be my centre of focus.
